BAY ROBERTS, N.L.
It was a regular Monday morning. Jennifer Penny said goodbye to her husband Marven who left for work in the offshore. She was waiting for the time to pick up her daughters, aged 10 and 14, from school for their lunch break when she scratched a $4 Set for Life ticket and won $20. What would happen next would be life changing for her family.
“I used the $20 in winnings to purchase a Super Set for Life ticket, it was the first one I ever bought,” Jennifer said. “I was on the parking lot of my daughters’ school and scratched the ticket while I was waiting for them. When I saw the three swimming fins symbols my hands started to shake.”
Jennifer works in the housekeeping division at a local senior’s home. She has no immediate plans for retirement.
“I need to let this all sink in before deciding on that, but it would not be right away. I could never leave the home stuck, when I do retire they will be given a lot of notice,” Jennifer said.
The Super Set for Life Scratch’N Win ticket offers a top prize of $100,000 a year for 20 years or a lump sum payout of $1.5 million. Jennifer has chosen the lump sum.
“We are planning a very special Disney cruise for the Easter break,” Jennifer said. “We have always wanted to do that.”
A special toy that Marven only joked about buying will also become a reality.
“Marven always joked around that if we ever won the lottery he was buying a Harley Davidson motorcycle,” Jennifer said. “I agreed but never really believed it would be possible.”
While the Disney cruise will be something to look forward to, Jennifer thinks a quick trip to Toronto to see a Leafs game is in order, sooner rather than later.
Jennifer bought her ticket at the Lotto Booth in the Beaver Plaza, Bay Roberts. They will receive a seller’s prize of one per cent.
