Happy New Year, everyone! We welcomed back students and staff from Christmas break on Jan. 8.
Everyone is back into the school routine with basketball season starting up and volleyball practice continuing in our school gym.
Father Roche visited some of our classes on Monday to perform magic tricks for students and staff.
The annual junior and senior high Winter Snowball Dance is taking place this evening in our school gym.
The pubic health nurse visited this week to facilitate a session on hygiene with the grade four students.
We would like to congratulate the students who were selected to attend the Legion’s Remembrance Day Essay and Poster Contest Awards. Representing our school on Jan. 20 are Mohamed Al-Zubaidy, Ryan Bennett, Cheyenne Bursey, Wayslanne Calvalcante, Max Chrappa, Molly George, Candace Johannesen, Kori Noel, Emily Payne, Jack Richardson, Davi Rodrigues, and Reyd Ward.

Congratulations to Mark Janes, Danyael Jacobs, and Cameron Bishop who participated in a hockey tournament in Deer Lake last weekend.
Congratulations to Mark Janes who received a Tae Kwon Do certificate for Perfect Form.
The junior kindergarten classes are learning about resolutions and how to be kind to other others this New Year. They are excited to bring in a special toy to share with the class.
Mrs. Hodder’s Kindergarten English class is looking forward to their Christmas show and tell today. They are learning about 3-D shapes in math and about snow safety in health.
Mrs. George’s Grade 1 English class is writing about their New Year’s Resolutions and making some crafts. They really enjoyed Father Roche’s magical visit on Monday.
Mme. Ryan’s Grade 1 and 2 French Immersion class is glad to be back to school. They are easing back into their routines after enjoying the Christmas break. They are working on addition and subtraction in math. They are also learning about heritage buildings in Newfoundland. The students are excited to welcome Yasmin Alkhalil to their class.
Ms. Cunning’s Grade 2 English class is very excited to be back at school with their friends. They have been discussing New Year’s resolutions and have created their own goals for the rest of the school year.
Mme. Moss’ Grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 French Immersion class is diving into a new grammar unit in French. They are having fun with multiplication games in math.
Mrs. Bishop’s Grade 3 class is building bridges and testing their strength in science class. The students are glad to be back to school after the break.
Ms. Guy’s Grade 4 class is excited about their upcoming cross country skiing lessons. In the meantime, they are working on speeches for the upcoming elementary speak-off.
Mr. Ryley’s Grade 5 class is working on heritage places posters and continuing their Stem project.
Mrs. McCarthy’s Grade 6 class is reading the “Gramma War” in language arts class. In math they are learning about transactions, rotations, and transformations.
Mr. Drew Nadon’s Grade 7 and 8 class is learning about calculating the area of circles and surface area of other shapes. The students are looking forward to the school dance. The class welcomed Fatima Alkhalil to Grade 7 this week.
Mr. Hancock’s Grade 9 to Level 3 class is starting to prepare and review for exams. The Grade 9 math students have begun working on algebraic equations. Science 1206 students are continuing their study of chemistry. The class welcomed Issac Burton to their Level 1 class this week.
Kindergarten Western Memorial School of Nursing hospital orientation is on Jan. 23.
Elementary Speak Off is on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in our school cafeteria.
