Margaret Harrara is always game for fun with her family so it only made sense for her to load the gang in the car for a road trip.
Margaret and her husband Riccardo, along with their four children, travelled from Lewisporte to Steady Brook to join thousands of others for some family fun at the 5KM Foam Fest — brought to the province by 365 Sports Inc. based in Ontario — held Saturday at Marble Mountain ski resort.
The Harrara clan were joined by Margaret’s dad Tom Rideout and stepmom Marie Rideout, who live in Corner Brook, and keeping careful eye on the three youngest children while oldest son Luca joined mom and dad for a jaunt around a course that featured 22 different inflatable obstacles including one of the longest inflatable water slides in Canada on site.
Margaret said Foam Fest was an instant draw for her because she loves to get involved in family-oriented events that promote fun and fitness in a light atmosphere.
“It’s great,” she said. “It teaches the kids about healthy living and healthy lifestyles. It gets us out and about doing things together, so it’s excellent.”
People from all walks of life, some choosing to put time and energy into creating matching team outfits with a broad range of patterns and colours, made their way around the obstacle couse at their own pace.
It wasn’t about getting to the finish line first. It was just about having a good time and sharing a fun time with people in the area and others who travelled as far away as St. John’s to support the event.
“I absolutely love it,” Margaret said. “I had the option of going to a cabin with some friends this weekend but I chose to do this with my family instead because this is what it’s all about, making memories.”
