A crowd gathered on a snowy Tuesday evening at Remembrance Square in Corner Brook for the Tree of Memories lighting ceremony. With Mike Payne leading a selection of Christmas carols, backed up by the sounds of the Salvation Army Band, the tree was lit this year by Keith Fillatre and his family.

The ceremony is meant to honour loved ones who have died, as well as raise funds for the Western Regional Hospital Foundation, with which Fillatre has long been involved. The Tree of Memories fundraising has accumulated over $260,000 for the foundation in the past 24 years, with a new total to be announced in the new year.

An Ecumenical church service followed the lighting ceremony at the First United Church on Park Street, with music by Gary Graham and the First United Church Choir.
