Together, people from the Evangeline region contributed five full grocery carts of non-perishable food to the Summerside Salvation Army Food Bank on Oct. 25..

The community food drive collected the contributions, which were handed over at the Wellington Co-op last Friday. Totalled up they're estimated to be worth $1,500.

The local community was invited to donate food, either at the Co-op or at the Évangéline-Central Credit Union, during the Co-op and Small Business Weeks, Oct. 15-25.

This annual food drive is organized by various co-operative and economic development partners.

Green said the food bank serves 65 to 75 families per week. Hurricane Dorian created an additional need for services, so the recent postal food drive and the Evangeline area drive came at a good time.

All those who contributed to the community food drive received a ticket for a draw for a $100 gift card from the Co-op and Patricia Perry of Wellington won the prize.
