OTTAWA – Canada Post is proposing a bump in postage rates next year.
The rate for domestic lettermail items weighing 30 grams or less when purchased in a booklet, coil or pane would increase to $0.90 from $0.85.
The price of a single domestic stamp would increase to $1.05 from of $1.
The rate change would take effect on Jan. 14, 2019, Canada Post indicated in a release issued on June 21.
The increase will be the first since 2014.
The impact should be less than a dollar per year for the average Canadian household and about $14 per year for a typical small business, according to Canada Post.
Canadians can buy permanent stamps at the current rate before the change, the release notes.
Increased rates for other domestic lettermail, U.S. and international letter-post items and domestic registered mail are also being proposed.
