One person was sent to hospital after a natural gas explosion south of Calgary on Monday night.

RCMP were alerted around 8:30 p.m. to a natural gas explosion at a property about three kilometres west of De Winton.

A 36-year-old man was taken to a Calgary hospital with serious injuries.

A large plume of smoke could be seen but fire officials said there was no risk to the public.

An investigation into what caused the explosion is continuing.
