PLACENTIA, NL — Trouble with the lift bridge in Placentia is creating headaches for residents of the community as of Monday, April 30.
According to a message posted to the Town of Placentia’s Facebook page early that afternoon, the Sir Ambrose Shea Lift Bridge is stuck in a raised position. It said the Department of Transportation and Works was getting in touch with a contractor to fix the problem.
In an update to the same post, the town said access to the bridge would be closed off for the remainder of the afternoon while a work crew repaired a cable.
As a result of the mishap with the bridge, some school children were expected to take buses home on a dirt road linking Dunville to Southeast Placentia.
The Sir Ambrose Shea Lift Bridge was officially opened in 2016, replacing an aging bridge that was a source of frequent frustration for resident of the Placentia area due to repeated malfunctions.
