Fire completely destroyed a house in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s Friday night.
Firefighters responded to the blaze just before 11 p.m. but when they arrived on scene at Hilltop Lane in Portugal Cove, the house was fully engulfed in flames and the glow from the fire could be seen for kilometres away.
While winds were light but cold temperatures caused water from firefighting efforts to quickly freeze on the ground and made for some slippery conditions for personnel on scene.
A spokesman on scene said there was no one home at the time of the fire as the owners were out of town.
There were no injuries.
