GEORGE’S BROOK-MILTON, NL— Say “Hello" to Newfoundland and Labrador’s newest municipality.

George’s Brook-Milton will become Newfoundland and Labrador's 272nd town following an official designation Tuesday night, Jan. 23, at the George’s Brook-Milton Recreation Centre.

“It feels great. We’ve arrived,” said Craig Pardy, chair of the local service district.

He said the provincial government's decision to approve incorporation for George’s Brook-Milton is the start of a new chapter in the history of both communities.

Municipal Affairs and Environment minister Eddie Joyce was at tonight's meeting as Bonavista MHA Neil King made the announcement to the large crowd gathered.

Cheers and applause rang through the building after the long-awaited verdict was delivered.

Residents of the community had voted in May, 2017, in favour of incorporation.

Over 70 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots with 66.1 per cent voting in favour.

Minister Joyce told The Packet tonight that the department sees George’s Brook-Milton’s need for a new town council as urgent, and will move to arrange the town’s first election “ASAP”

“I just told Craig (Pardy) that the department will be contacting him tomorrow,” said Joyce.
