HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, N.L. – Two youth have been released from custody with future court dates after allegedly stealing a vehicle last night, July 16, according to the Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP.

In a release, the RCMP indicated a woman reported the theft and the identity of the youth at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The vehicle was located travelling from Goose Bay to Sheshatshiu at a high rate of speed.

Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle using emergency lights and sirens but abandoned their efforts out of concern for public safety when the driver did not stop.

On their way to the youth’s expected destination, police found them attempting to flee on foot after crashing the vehicle into a garbage box.

They both appeared in court today, July 17, and have been each charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The driver is facing additional charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police and mischief over $5,000.
