It’s that time of year when wallets take a beating as folks prepare for the gift-giving and entertaining season of Christmas. Some folks make a budget and stick to it religiously, some have a budget that gets blown, some think they’ve done their shopping early, but can’t resist to get a few more things anyway, while others just spend whatever it is they need to make their Christmas the best possible.
Question: Do you have a Christmas shopping budget and, if so, how hard is it to stick to it?

No, we don’t really have a budget. We never know what it’s going to cost every year. We spend whatever we need for the kids. We do go crazy sometimes. It’s hard not to, but some years are better than others.

Yes, I do have a budget and I do try to stick to it. It’s really hard to do that now because prices have gone up so much. It’s easy for it to get out of hand, but I will try to do a good job.

I have a budget. Do I stick to it? No. Having grandchildren just throws it out the window, but I try. Generally, I go over by a lot. I finished my shopping already, but that’s not to say I won’t buy something else.

I don’t really have a budget. I just buy what I need. It’s hard to keep it under control. If I see something I like, I’ll buy it and then I’ll buy another thing and another thing and, before you know it, I’ve spent $300.

I have a budget, but it’s very hard. If you don’t get to the specials, you have to substitute something else. You’ve got to get gifts and, when you have to travel to shop, you have to try and get as much done as you can.

I don’t have a budget, but I don’t overspend, either. I don’t limit it. I just buy what I feel I need to enjoy Christmas. I get what I need for myself, and I might spend a couple of hundred dollars on family.
