At the Mall, at the Avalon Mall, the administration wanted to mark the 50th anniversary as the largest shopping centre in the province with a tribute remake of “Babylon Mall.”
The mall brought together some of the most talented musicians, vocalists and comedians from this province to re-record the hugely popular song by the Wonderful Grand Band (WGB).
Proceeds will benefit the Tommy Sexton Centre.

Written by Jamie Snyder, “Babylon Mall” was originally released in 1981 with lead vocals by the late Tommy Sexton. The song was a hit and helped garner national attention for a band that featured some of this province’s most celebrated musicians, the Avalon Mall noted in a news release.
The new version of “Babylon Mall” includes some of the musicians who played on the original hit. Recorded locally at Sound Solutions Studio, vocals feature Mark Critch and Amelia Curran, Geraldine Hollett, and Glenn Simmons. Also featured in the song are WGB alumni Sandy Morris and Paul Stamp with fellow musicians Bill Sutton and Paul Kinsman.
The new “Babylon Mall” song is available for purchase for $1.39 from www.babylonmall.ca for one year beginning today. All proceeds from every sale will be donated to the Tommy Sexton Centre to support emergency short-term accommodations for men and women in need of shelter.
Sexton, a celebrated local comedian and Wonderful Grand Band member who did the original 'Babylon Mall' vocals, died Dec. 13, 1993, of complications of AIDS. He was 36.
