Police are continuing their investigation into an incident involving a barricaded man that occurred on Wednesday on Downey’s Lane in Stephenville Crossing.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., Bay St. George RCMP and Police Dog Services West responded to a report of a 23-year-old man armed with a weapon, which in this instance was a knife, according to Cpl. Brad Lucas.

The man had barricaded himself at a residence in Stephenville Crossing and after a 40-minute stand-off the man surrendered his weapon and was taken into custody. He was transported to the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital for assessment.

Lucas said police weren’t threatened during the incident and there were no safety concerns for the public while it was taking place.

The man was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in Stephenville Provincial Court on Oct. 1.
