CORNER BROOK, N.L. — Corner Brook city council has approved the execution of the prime consultant agreement to look into redeveloping the pool area at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University into a regional recreational centre.

Council gave the proposal the green light last month, but formally approved its execution at Monday night’s public meeting.

The contractor, SNC Lavalin will undertake the research and critical analysis to assess the options for revitalizing and possibly expanding the existing pool and gymnasium area at Grenfell Campus.

The value of the contract is $113,346, though $64,000 of that is money left from the fund put forth by the city and several other partners for the original feasibility study into a new regional aquatic centre.

The city will assume the remaining cost under its multi-year capital program.
