Libraries at six College of the North Atlantic (CNA) campuses in the province have been reinvented.
The spaces are now known as Learning Commons, according to a CNA release.
The goal was to create an environment that fosters group learning and collaboration for students to succeed as individuals as well as in teams, the release notes.
The new Learning Commons areas are located at the Bay St. George, Clarenville, Corner Brook, Seal Cove, Prince Philip Drive and Ridge Road campuses.
Couches and high chairs stand against tables of varied styles, the release indicates. The walls are brightly coloured.
There are huddle stations suited to casual group discussions that have a writing board and large screen computer.
Mobile charging stations offer access to a portable power bank, available for one-hour loans.
Laptop bars give students privacy to surf for information or conduct online research. Students can sign out CNA laptops for up to seven days.
Smartboard-equipped study rooms can accommodate groups large and small.
For those looking for quiet and privacy, individual cubicle spaces are also available.
“I am really excited about our newly renovated Learning Commons as an innovative way to help serve, and support learning for our students,” said Elizabeth Chaulk, CNA’s vice president of academics and student services.
“It is a vibrant space equipped with the latest technology, which will help to create a social space to promote interaction and team building.”
