"Come From Away" has smashed an all-time box office record.
The musical, based on the 7,000 or so airline passenger who were stranded in Gander during the events of 9-11 and the local residents who took them in, has shattered the record for highest weekly gross income at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on Broadway.

The show had its best week ever at the box office last week, raking in $1,527,279.50. It's the highest for any eight-show week at the Schoenfeld Theatre.
The previous record holder at the theatre was "It's Only a Play," starring a celebrity cast: Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Stockard Channing, Rupert Grint and Megan Mullaly.
"Come From Away" has seen tremendous success since opening on Broadway last March. It has won a plethora of awards — including the Tony award for best direction of a musical (Christopher Ashley), and a feature film adaptation of the musical is in the works.
A second "Come From Away" company will open in Winnipeg for a month in January, before taking up residence at Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre Feb. 13. A third company will launch a North American tour in October.
"Come From Away" was created by husband and wife team Irene Sankoff and David Hein. Two natives of Newfoundland and Labrador are featured in the Broadway production: Petrina Bromley stars in the cast while Romano Di Nillo is the percussionist in the band.
