CORNER BROOK, N.L. — Following a string of thefts from unlocked vehicles in Corner Brook early Monday morning, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is reminding the general public to secure their vehicles and leave nothing valuable unattended inside.
In one theft, a wallet containing a debit and credit cards was stolen from a parked vehicle on Wheeler's Road. Using the 'tap' feature on the card, thieves were able to make a number of purchases at businesses in the city. A fraud investigation is underway.
"The RNC would also like to remind owners of debit/credit cards that unwanted purchases can be made by unauthorized persons possessing this property by using the 'tap' feature on the card," the RNC's statement reads. "To prevent becoming a victim of such theft/fraud incidents, ensure these items are accounted for at all times."
Bandits also hit a parked car on Budgen Place, scoring a wallet and a laptop computer, and another on Pratt Street, coming away with a purse.
