He has been charged with uttering a threat to kill someone and with unlawful storage of a firearm.

According to the RCMP, the alleged threats involved the use of a firearm. Court documents indicate the threat was uttered to one person but was about killing a third person.

The firearms offence, according to information filed with the court, alleges the accused failed to render a stored, non-restricted firearm inoperable by a secure locking device or by the removal of the bolt or bolt carrier.

He made three brief appearances in provincial court Wednesday. During the first, Crown attorney Adam Sparkes and defence counsel Darby Ashton told Judge Kymil Howe they were working on a release plan for him but needed more time to finalize it.

A little more than an hour later, the lawyers asked Howe for a bit more time and the matter was set for early afternoon.

During the third appearance, which was before Judge Catherine Allen-Westby, Sparkes informed the court that new information had come to light and that the Crown was now opposed to releasing him.

Sparkes did not elaborate in open court about what the new information was and declined to comment about the latest details of the case when asked after court had adjourned.

The matter was set for a bail hearing Thursday afternoon.
