DEER LAKE

The Deer Lake Royal Canadian Mounted Police have not confirmed any criminal activity has taken place, but it is trying to identify a man who approached a young girl in the town on Wednesday.

Police say the man, who was driving a van, stopped to talk to a young girl after reportedly watching her and a friend for some time at the Deer Lake beach.

The girl did not engage in conversation and left the area on foot. According to the complaint the man drove away.

The man was wearing a blue T-shirt and is described as being heavy set with a mustache, long grey hair and was bald on the top of his head. He was operating a light blue minivan, possibly a Toyota.

Police are asking anyone with knowledge of the man, who could help in identifying him, to contact them at 709-635-2173. Information call also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at www.nlcrimestoppers.com or on the Crime Stoppers app “P3 Tips.”
