Human remains were found in an area near the Bay D’Espoir Highway, about five kilometres south of the Trans-Canada Highway on Friday, Grand Falls-Windsor police confirm.
Foul play has not been ruled out at this point, but the investigation is ongoing. Police said they are considering that this could be a non-criminal incident.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police forensic identification section is investigating in conjunction with the office of the chief medical examiner.
Police said the name of the person, once confirmed, will not be released until next of kin are notified.
