The more Adam Anderson looked at a parcel of land in Hughes Brook the more it appealed to him.
He knew the man who owned the land and that he wasn’t interested in doing anything with it. Because the man, who Anderson would not name, was in no hurry to get rid of the land, Anderson was able to take some time to do some research and look at what would have to be done in terms of rezoning it development.
“The more I looked at it, the more opportunity I saw, so I went ahead,” said Anderson.
He started a new company, NewLine Developments Inc., to manage the development of Nature’s Path Estates, a 13-lot housing development in the previously undeveloped part of Hughes Brook.
Anderson is also the owner of Resource Innovations, a consulting firm. He said the new business is a separate endeavour.
While the development is within the town’s boundaries, access is through a road constructed off the Corner Brook Pulp and Paper’s forest access road just above the town’s entrance on the north shore highway.
Anderson said he was in talks with the town on planning and design of the development for about a year and half and after about two years total of planning ground breaking and construction of the access road for the development started in April.
With phase one of the project completed two weeks ago, the lots are now up for sale.
“What was in my mind from the start was to give people in western Newfoundland access to pieces of land that are a little bit bigger than the norm,” said Anderson.
The lots range from a half acre to nearly a full acre, priced from $50,000 to the high $70,000s.
Anderson spent a lot of time while growing up in the woods in back of Hughes Brook with his dad.
“Just knowing where the piece was, that it was a beautiful piece of property in my mind, I knew that it would appeal to somebody.”
