RCMP in the province laid more than 800 charges laid and checked nearly 4,000 vehicles during Canada Road Safety Week: May 15-21.
The RCMP in a news release, said as part of the annual initiative, officers focused on impaired driving, seat belt compliance, aggressive driving, distracted driving and intersection violations, as well as other offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
There were no reports of fatal or serious injury, or crashes during the period.
Ticket/offences by the numbers:
Impaired by drug: zero
Roadside suspensions (ASD): zero
Speeding: 508
Aggressive driving: 74
Seat Belts: 31
Distracted driving: 18
Fail to yield: seven
Other provincial traffic violations: 159
Careless driving: 16
Impaired driving: seven
Prohibited driving (Criminal Code): two
Other Criminal Code: three
Unsafe lane change: one
Number of vehicles checked for the week: 3,888
Total: 828 charges
The RCMP noted similar policing efforts will continue throughout the summer months as traffic increases on our highways. Motorists are advised to slow down while, don’t drink and drive and always wear their seatbelts while traveling.
