The Bay Roberts RCMP say they stopped a Newfoundland and Labrador woman abducting her son.

Tuesday, about 8 p.m. Bay Roberts RCMP received a complaint from a man who reported that his son was abducted after school by the boy’s mother, the police said in a news release.

The man told police he believed the woman was taking the boy across the island to catch the ferry and leave the province, according to the RCMP.

RCMP officers across the province, the RNC in Corner Brook, Marine Atlantic and the Labrador Marine Ferry service in St. Barbe were advised of the situation.

About 10:39 a.m. Wednesday morning, Port Saunders RCMP located the woman at the ferry terminal in St. Barbe. She was arrested and has since been released from police custody on conditions. She is scheduled to attend Harbour Grace provincial court on Aug. 21.

Charges of parental abduction are being submitted for approval by the Attorney General through the provincial Crown attorney’s office, the police said.
