The votes of the district of Fogo Island-Cape Freels has decided to remain Liberal electing Derrick Bragg once again to the House of Assembly.
And Bragg is “tickled pink” about the confidence of his constituents.
He took the vote 2,811 to 2,365.
Bragg was first voted in as an MHA in 2015. He told Central Voice this evening his track record over the last three and a half years spoke for itself.
“I’ve put a lot of hard work into my district, from one end to the other,” said Bragg.
Bragg said he plans on catching his breath and getting down to work again.
He ran against Progressive Conservative candidate Sue Collins.
And he commended Collins, a first-time candidate, for her campaign.
“She did a great job considering she had four weeks to prepare for it,” he said.
Collins said she was approached by the party to run and felt honoured to have the Tories’ confidence.
While it wasn’t the outcome she was hoping for, Collins says she’ll continue to serve the district even though she’s not an MHA.
“I think I proved I’m a good representative for our district,” she said. “I’ll continue to try and help the people I’ve talked to over the past month and try and get answers for them.”
