Forty-five votes.

That’s the slim margin that decided the election night dead heat between the two candidates in the district of Bonavista.

Throughout the night the lead shifted back and forth between PC Craig Pardy and Liberal incumbent Neil King.

The final outcome wasn’t determined until the votes from the very last of the 49 polling stations was counted.

And the math wound up in Craig Pardy’s favour. He had defeated King — who served just one term in office — with 2,611 votes to 2,566.

While Pardy lives in George’s Brook-Milton, and is originally from Port Union, he watched the election results at Bonavista Retirement Home — where his mother lives.

King spent election night at his headquarters in Catalina.

With such a close outcome, there is potential for a recount in this district.

However, neither Pardy nor King could be reached for comment on election night.
