The Department of Transportation and Works says its engineers have no safety concerns about any of the overpasses at the intersection of Lewin Parkway, Humber Road and Main Street, although they do continue to monitor the three bridges in the area.
Last week, The Western Star requested an interview with the department about the state of the infrastructure. No interview was given, but the department said in an email Monday that all loose surface concrete above the road surface and sidewalks was removed after an inspection in March and no new issues have developed since.
Inspections include, among other things, an assessment for structural integrity, the condition of surface concrete and other external materials.
Any required replacement of surface concrete on the underside of the bridges, added the department, will be completed as part of future maintenance and rehabilitation operations.
