Stephenville came out relatively unscathed by the rain and melting snow from a mild overnight Sunday and into Monday morning.
Mike Campbell, town manager, said there was some minor water pooling on roads but nothing that stopped traffic from moving.
A backhoe was spotted in a ditch on Minnesota Drive as the operator worked to get some backed up water moving so an equipment building on Mayfield soccer pitch wouldn’t suffer water damage.
There had been fear after last year’s winter mild that caused damage to a family farm in Noel’s Pond that there might be a reoccurrence but that didn’t happen as the water flowed on through in Warm Creek.
Campbell said members of their public works division were out prior to the mild and cleared up the storm drains, with this preventative work helping keep the water moving into catch basins.
Tracey Higgins, manager of the weather station at Stephenville Airport, said from the start of the rain on Sunday night until it stopped on Monday, there was 20 mm that fell.
She said in relation to wind, the highest gust through the early morning was 77 km/h.
