Peaceful demonstration against fatal police shooting of Jorden McKay held in Corner Brook

Demonstrators demanding answers about the circumstances under which Jorden McKay was shot by the police in Corner Brook last week march towards the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary headquarters Monday afternoon. Around 20 people took part in the hour-long event.

Organizers indicated they wanted to keep demonstrators safe and did not wish to interfere with any traffic flow, including RNC operations.

McKay, 27, died after RNC officers went to his home late last Tuesday night. The Ontario Provincial Police are conducting an investigation into what happened.

Monday’s peaceful demonstration against the fatal police shooting of 27-year-old Jorden McKay in Corner Brook last week stopped short of being directly in front of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary headquarters on University Drive. Instead, the marchers halted just below the intersection with Canada Games Place, about 100 metres above the police station, to get the attention of passing motorists.
