ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is no closer to solving the source of where the cache of guns recently found at Cape Spear came from.
The RNC were called to Cape Spear National Historic Site on the afternoon of July 16 to investigate what was described as a suspicious property.
A large duffel bag with various items was visible, some similar to a pipe or shotgun barrel, on the hillside as RNC officers waited for its Tactical Rescue Unit Team to arrive. In addition, they waited for assistance from the St. John’s Regional Fire Department’s high angle rescue team to assist in the recovery of the items.
“We have no updates on this right now nor is there confirmation of the types of weapons found,’’ Const. James Cadigan, the RNC’s media relations officer, said Tuesday.
“We did bring in divers to assist with our Marine Unit to search the bay, but no additional weapons were found,’’ he added.
The investigation is ongoing.
