The RCMP is looking to talk to anyone who may have seen the vehicle involved in a fatal collision in Corner Brook this past Friday night in the moments leading up to the accident.

The accident happened shortly after a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officer tried to make a traffic stop involving the vehicle on Main Street in Corner Brook.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop. The subsequent collision that resulted in the death of a man in his 20s involved the vehicle hitting a home on Caribou Road at around 9:40 p.m.

The incident is being investigated by RCMP Major Crime Unit West, with the assistance of RCMP Traffic Services, at the request of the Department of Justice and Public Safety.

Mike King, Director of the provincial Serious Incident Response Team, will have civilian oversight of the RCMP investigation.

The vehicle involved in the collision was an older model, four-door Hyundai SUV. It is believed that a number of motorists travelling on Main Street, Herald Avenue and Caribou Road encountered this vehicle in the time leading up to the collision.

Police are looking to speak with anyone who saw the vehicle around this time or witnessed the collision.

In addition, anyone in the area who may have video surveillance or dash camera videos of this incident are asked to contact RCMP Major Crime Unit West at 709-637-4420.
