Port Saunders, N.L. —  On Wednesday, Port Saunders RCMP responded to a call that a man was in distress at a residence in Reef’s Harbour.

When they arrived, the police tried to speak with an 18-year-old man from Reef’s Harbour who was behaving erratically. He was subsequently apprehended under the Mental Health Care and Treatment Act (MHCTA).

The young man became combative during arrest and assaulted a police officer causing minor injuries.

As a result, he was charged with assaulting a police officer and breach of a judge’s undertaking. He was seen in Corner Brook provincial court on Thursday where he was charged and then remanded to the Waterford Hospital in St. John’s for assessment.
