The City of Corner Brook is hosting a festival to help welcome the largest cruise ship to ever visit Corner Brook.

The MCS Meraviglia, which is due to visit the city Friday, is actually the fifth-largest cruise ship in the world.

It has a capacity for 4,500 passengers and 1,536 crew.

The inaugural visit of the Meraviglia to Corner Brook marks the end of the 2019 cruise ship season for the city. Despite one cancellation due to weather, the city hosted a record 19 visits this season.

To celebrate the occasion, the City of Corner Brook has planned a Colours of Corner Brook Festival. The lower part of West Street will be closed to traffic for the festival, which will be based at the civic square right outside city hall.

The festival, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be a celebration of local art, culture and history, along with the radiant autumn colours of the area.
