UPDATE: St. John's man arrested following Corner Brook crime spree facing additional charges

CORNER BROOK, N.L. — The 18-year-old St. John's man charged in relation to a crime spree in Corner Brook Thursday night into Friday morning of last week is now facing additional charges. 

In an appearance in weekend and statutory holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, he was charged with break, enter and theft into a residence, theft under $5,000 for shoplifting, mischief and six counts of breaching a court order.

His earlier charges from this incident include assaulting a police officer, escaping lawful custody, armed robbery, disguise with intent to commit a crime, theft over $5,000, driving while prohibited, two counts of trespassing at night, and failing to attend court.  

He's set to appear in provincial court in Corner Brook again today.

An 18-year-old man from St. John's is on his way back to the capital city following a crime spree in Corner Brook last night.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers were initially called to an attempted ATV theft from a backyard in the city's east end around 9:30 p.m. During the course of the investigation, police learned a residential break and enter had occurred just a few houses away.

Roughly an hour later, police were called to an armed robbery at a business on Country Road where the male suspect had fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was located in a stolen vehicle in the area of Mayfair Avenue shortly thereafter, but allegedly assaulted a police officer that attempted to arrest him. He abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot and was apprehended in the Townsite area at approximately 2 a.m.

The subsequent investigation revealed that the accused was already sought on an outstanding warrant.

He has since been charged with assault a police officer, escaping lawful custody, armed robbery, disguise with intent to commit a crime, theft over $5,000, driving while prohibited, two counts of trespassing at night, and failing to attend court. 

Police expect to add a charge of break and enter. 

The accused is reportedly being transported to Her Majesty's Penitentiary in St. John's to await a court appearance.
