The RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit in St. John's has laid additional charges in relation to the Project Broken investigation.
Jonathan Brandon Mahon, 27, of St. John’s, already facing charges a number of charges including possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking drugs, can add two counts of laundering the proceeds of crime and three counts of possession of the proceeds of crime to his list of charges.
Another 27-year-old man, Steven Francis Noseworthy of Torbay, was also charged. he faces one count of laundering the proceeds of a crime.
The new charges comes after the investigation assistance from Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre (FINTRAC), the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), the Forensic Accounting Management Group, and Seized Property and Management Directorate.
Both individuals were charged in St. John's provincial court on on Monday and are set to appear for first appearances related to these charges on Jan. 23.
Project Broken is an investigation into an organized crime group that was conducting an inter-provincial drug trafficking operation.
