While some of the things a male teenager described about the night he is accused of sexually assaulting a girl from his school matched her testimony, it differed dramatically on the description of the sexual activity.

The male teen is in the second of three trials in Stephenville provincial court on sexual assault charges stemming from while he was a student at Stephenville High School, where all three of his alleged victims also attended.

The complainant had testified to going for a drive with the accused and ending up parked behind the Stephenville Dome, an ice arena in Stephenville.

She said he asked her to get in the back seat of the car as it would be more comfortable there to talk; however, after some kissing between the two, she said it went a lot further.

The complainant alleged that it quickly escalated to sexual assault and that at one point the accused had his hands around her neck choking her, while forcing himself on her.

She said she couldn’t do anything due to one hand being behind her back and the other between the two of them.

In a DVD of his statement to police after he was arrested that was played in court, the accused told the police officer he picked up the complainant and they parked behind the Dome. He said after some kissing, sex took place, but it was all consensual.

While she had described an awkward and fairly quiet ride home after the incident, answering his few questions abruptly, the accused described “having a good laugh together” on the ride to her place.

“In my mind there was no sexual assault committed. She didn’t say no to anything that happened,” he said. “I believe the whole experience was consensual.”

The trial continues later this month and the trial involving the third sexual assault allegations against the teenager is set to start in early August.
