STEPHENVILLE, N.L. — The Stephenville town council wants two things relating to transportation – better snow clearing in the winter and road improvements right across the province.

Coun. Mike Tobin brought the transportation issue to the town council table on Thursday, stating the new highway traffic camera located on White’s Road in Black Duck Siding is a positive happening and good to have.

Coun. Laura Aylward agreed it was good to have but added that as a town council, members should reassess the highway and demand a better Trans-Canada Highway, with more divided highway that exists on the Avalon Peninsula and some other places across the island.

Mayor Tom Rose said there are countless times when people are fighting snow on the highway, that it’s problematic when the forecast is wrong and there should be 24-hour snow clearing.

The town council will be writing government on the issue and continues to want to meet with a transportation and works minister.
