Q. Do you believe there is more that can be done to combat climate change in Newfoundland and Labrador? Explain.

A. Yes, and our Liberal government has begun to do more with its release in March 2019 of an action plan to do just that. I am hearing at the door that we need more educational programs on the benefits of recycling. Also we need to encourage industry to cut down on the use of plastics in our food presentation at stores. We need to work with all stakeholders, federally and provincially, to create a green economy.

Q. What is your primary legislative priority should you be (re)elected?

A. My legislative priority is one dealing with automobile insurance where uninsured drivers cannot receive damage compensation. Because we have drivers who do not pay for insurance, the rest of us are left with the burden of paying more.

Q. With the death rate exceeding the birth rate, outmigration remaining prominent, and an aging population, what is your top priority to address demographic challenges in N.L.?

A. To address demographic challenges, we need to create jobs. This can be done, for example, through helping entrepreneurs, supporting our existing industries and encouraging them to expand their base, like secondary processing in our fishing industry. Another example of an area of job creation possibilities is tourism. I feel that we have not tapped the full potential of our winter tourism opportunities. Our party is dedicated to improving child care support to encourage young families to stay here.

Q. Are changes needed to the existing tax system in Newfoundland and Labrador? If so, what specifically should change?

A. Yes, changes are needed to the existing tax system in our province, as our taxes are way too high. As the fiscal situation in which we find ourselves improves, we will find opportunities to reduce taxes. In our 2019 budget, we have removed the taxes on automobile insurance and eliminated the levy.

Q. Do you have any conflicts of interest that would need to be addressed upon (re)entering the House of Assembly?

A. No, I have no conflicts of interests.
