FLOWER'S COVE, N.L. —

A 13-year-old boy is facing charges after he reportedly drove an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) recklessly and refused to stop for police.

According to Flowers Cove RCMP, officers spotted ATVs driving recklessly on the highway near Savage Cove on Sunday. When officers tried to stop them, they sped away.

One the ATVs was located a short time later, along with the teen driver and two female passengers.

The boy was arrested and criminal charges are pending for flight from police and operating on a highway while on an ATV.

The boy’s parents were also charged under the Motorized Snow Vehicle and ATV Act for allowing a person to operate an ATV while under the legal age.

The ATV was seized and impounded at the owner’s expense.

The RCMP reminds the public that operating an ATV on the highway is illegal (unless in a specifically designated area) and the minimum age limit for operating an adult-sized ATV (over 90 CC) is 16 years old.
