ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The trial of one of three men charged in connection with a violent home invasion in Victoria two years ago got underway in St. John's this week.
Evidence presented in the Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court trial of Rocky Nicholson is banned from publication at this point, as his co-accused has yet to go to trial. The trial is being heard by Justice Rosalie McGrath.
Nicholson, 57, Paul Hanlon, 52, and 29-year-old Jordan Aubie were arrested in September 2017 after RCMP officers attended a home in Victoria, near Carbonear, having received a report of a break-in and assault. Four people, including two of the accused, were taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The three men were charged with breaking and entering with the intent to commit a crime, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and wearing a disguise during the commission of an offence.
Aubie, who pleaded not guilty, was cleared of all those charges in provincial court in Harbour Grace last December.
Hanlon, who has elected to have his case heard by a jury, is scheduled to go to trial Feb. 17, 2020.
