Two 18-year-old men from the Stephenville area are facing criminal code charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and several charges under the Highway Traffic Act.

That’s as the result of an investigation into a report of two vehicles traveling at high speeds and possible racing on the Hansen Highway in Stephenville on Thursday night.

Bay St. George RCMP received a report at about 9:45 p.m. on that date.

Police were advised one of the vehicles had collided with the other vehicle twice and both sustained what appeared to be considerable damage. Before police could respond to the area, the vehicles had departed the scene.

Within several hours officers were able to locate both vehicles, seize them and arrest the alleged drivers.

Their first appearance date is set for Dec. 3 in Stephenville Provincial Court.
