A home on New Pennywell Road was hit with bullets in what police are calling a targeted attack late Thursday night in St. John’s.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s (RNC) major crime unit is investigating but have not arrested anyone yet.
In an emailed statement, police said a vehicle was reported to have been seen speeding away from the area, but investigators have not yet determined whether the responsible person or persons were on foot or in a vehicle.
The RNC responded to a report just after 11:45 p.m. that shots were fired.
“When officers arrived, they located a residence that had visible damage consistent with rounds from a firearm,” reads a news release from the RNC.
“Forensic officers also located damage inside of the home. There was at least one individual in the home at the time who was not injured. Police Service Dog (PSD) Gunner and his handler located a number of empty casings nearby.”
No one was injured.
Units involved include standard operational patrol services, forensic ID services, K-9 units and the RNC’s major crimes unit, which is now investigating the incident.
Police don’t believe the general public is at risk.
The investigation is ongoing and investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed it.
Anyone with information is asked to call the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). People can also provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
