Thanks to the actions of a civilian motorist, an alleged drunk driver was removed from the highway near St. Anthony Friday evening.
The RCMP received a complaint of a possibly impaired driver at around 8 p.m.
The report was that the driver was travelling in the wrong lane on the highway and a vehicle had to swerve to avoid a collision.
A witness was able to stop the vehicle and detain the subject until police arrived on scene.
A 23-year-old man was taken into police custody and was later released to appear in court for impaired driving and refusal to provide a breath sample.
The vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days, as per the new legislation under the Highway Traffic Act.
The RCMP would like to remind the motoring public that if anyone suspects impaired driving to contact the local police detachment or call 911.
