RODDICKTON, N.L. — A driver who allegedly video recorded or photographed an accident scene while driving past it on Tuesday was ticketed when the RCMP pulled her vehicle over.
The woman, 37, was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for using a hand-held cellphone while driving.
The incident occurred about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday on the Northern Peninsula. Roddickton RCMP, along with emergency medical services and the Englee Fire Department, were dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle rollover with injuries.
The driver of the rollover vehicle — the sole occupant of the vehicle — was transported to hospital with injuries.
While police officers were investigating the collision, a woman drove past the scene, turned her vehicle around a short distance away and drove back past the scene holding a cellphone out her window. It is suspected she was taking photos or a video recording of the collision scene.
RCMP officers stopped her and issued the ticket.
The RCMP reminds drivers the use of hand-held communication devices while driving is prohibited and a first offence carries a fine of $390 and four demerit points, and distracted driving, especially through an active collision scene, puts everyone in danger, including other motorists and emergency personnel.
