Nikkia O’Brien of St. George’s said what somebody did to her cat last week was completely inhumane.
She said her cat, Velcro, went missing on Tuesday of last week, and on Friday evening a family friend found her in terrible shape.
O’Brien said wherever Velcro was, someone pulled out all her nails, and actually took three toes with them.
She said Velcro was vomiting, and suffering from diarrhea and seizures from the pain. O’Brien said some green plastic came up while Velcro was vomiting, leaving her to believe that someone had left the cat in a garbage bag to die, but she chewed her way out.
O’Brien said Velcro weighs only six pounds and is very friendly, so it’s horrible that someone would do something like that to her.
She gained the name Velcro because when O’Brien first got her, she hung onto her housecoat like someone stuck her there.
O’Brien has already posted on Facebook that she is offering a reward leading to the identification of the person who did this. When asked the amount, she said at least $500 if it leads to someone being charged.
She lives in Shallop Cove, part of St. George’s, near a place known as Cutler’s Hill and across from the Friendship Centre.
Already in for $700 in veterinarian bills and Velcro having to be on painkillers and antibiotics, along with medication for seizures — which the cat will have to be on for the rest of her life — O’Brien is trying to understand what would make somebody do something like this.
She praised the local veterinarian for doing what she could to ease Velcro’s pain, and said her cat has hardly moved in the house since Friday.
