A man from York Harbour has been charged with drunk driving after police responded to a report of an intoxicated person trying to start a fight at a bar in the town late Sunday night.
When police arrived on scene, the man had left the bar in a vehicle, reportedly heading towards Little Port Road. The vehicle was located and stopped, but the driver sped off when an RCMP officer approached.
The driver was arrested when he stopped the vehicle again a few minutes later.
Police said breath samples taken indicated the man’s blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.
He was issued a ticket under the Highway Traffic Act for having open liquor in the vehicle, had his licence suspended and vehicle seized.
The man was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.
