Michael Hannaford appeared in provincial court in St. John’s Saturday morning to hear the charges against him.

He wore a white Tyvek suit while Judge James Walsh read the charges.

The 27-year-old faces eight charges altogether, including attempted murder of a woman.

Hannaford is also charged with mischief by damaging the woman’s property, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, pointing a firearm at the woman, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.

After the initial investigation, the Criminal Investigation Division was requested by police and additional charges were laid against Hannaford relating to an earlier incident.

Hannaford was then also charged with attempted murder, careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He is in police custody and will appear in provincial court Tuesday morning for a bail hearing.
