A man given a four-year, three-month sentence last week for a 2017 violent home invasion has been given an extra four months behind bars for a series of thefts while he was out on bail.
The sentenced was handed down Wednesday in provincial court in the case of Michael Samson, 34, who was convicted of three counts of theft under $5,000, resisting arrest and breaching court orders.
Between April 24 and May 17, Samson twice stole items from Lawton's drugs at 466 Topsail Rd. and once at a Dominion supermarket.
Samson had been sentenced on the more serious crimes on Oct. 11 at Newfoundland Supreme Court. In that case, he was found guilty of robbery, break and enter, assault with a weapon and court breaches for entering a man's house on Thorburn Road and stabbing him in the back with a crowbar.
With time served, he had three years and 9 ½ months left to serve.
