Nain man charged with bootlegging

NAIN, N.L. — A Nain man is facing charges after police seized a large quantity of they are saying is illegal alcohol.

Following a tip from the public that bootlegging was happening in a local residence, RCMP executed a search warrant and seized a large quantity of alcohol.

Martin Merkuratsuk, 30, was arrested and charged with selling contraband alcoholic liquor pursuant to the Liquor Control Act and failure to comply with an undertaking. Merkuratsuk was released from custody on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The investigation is continuing and anyone with information in relation to bootlegging in the community is asked to call Nain RCMP at 709-922-2862.
