At the regular council meeting for the Town of Labrador City held July 10 residents learned their community will have a new Chief Administrative Officer.

Present town manager Gary Wensman will finish his duties in September.

The selection of the new CAO was approved at the public session of council and Mayor Wayne Button made it official that Cathy Estell will take up the duties in September.

During his announcement, Button pointed out Etsell is certainly no stranger to the municipality.

“Cathy has been with the Town of Labrador City for 27 years and brings a wealth of experience to her position,” he said.

Etsell has been town clerk for the past six years and has garnered a large breadth of experience with her long-term employment with the town.

When the announcement was made, Etsell thanked the council, staff, and the many co-workers she has worked with in her years at the town, and those who have provided support and assistance.

She told those in attendance she now looks forward to her new position.

Many of her co-workers gathered in the council chambers for the announcement, and wished her well in this new chapter of her career with the Town of Labrador City.
